First of all, I’m not the acceptable police XD BUT YES! A white person can and should Cosplay Korra or any POC character AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT DO BLACK/BROWN FACE.
You are not being ” character accurate” you are continuing a long history of systematic oppression where white is seen as the standard and you can costume yourself to anything else.
People cannot wash their actual skin color off at the end of the day.
Let me repeat that because some people have trouble with this: People. Cannot. Wash. Their skin color off.
But Poison Ivy and Gamora are green and- SHUT UP. NOT THE SAME THING. GREEN PEOPLE DON’T ACTUALLY EXIST AND DON’T EXPERIENCE RACISM ON A DAILY BASIS.
And it’s extremely acceptable for a person of color to cosplay as a character who is usually portrayed as white. This may come as a shock, but there are more white characters than not.
I know. Shocking.
But has “white face” ever been an issue? Answer: no. Racism actually does not work both ways. It just doesn’t. Sure, there are prejudices against people, that can go any which way. But racism is an institution. It is a social institution and it won’t go away if you shut your eyes and wish it away REALLY hard. Pretending it doesn’t exist really makes it worse.
And I acknowledge that I am coming from a position of privilege, you should really ask someone who has experienced racism on a deeper level. I have only experienced vague, uncomfortable antisemitism othering. In some places in Europe, that would make me not “White” despite my red hair and pale skin. Do you see how it’s an institution?
And that is all I am going to say on the subject.
have you ever just cried because you’re you

what I’ll end up doing on halloween:
Just a reminder that tattoos don’t have to mean anything. They do not require some intricate and moving backstory. Some people just appreciate having art on their skin…it’s as simple as that.
